Memorial Service (Updated 4-27-09)

A Celebration of
Kit Lauer's Life
Thursday, April 30, 2009
6:00pm
at Hope Chapel
Heavy Pupus will be served at the Courtyard after the service.
If you were not able to pick up one of the trays to put the pupus (distributed last Sunday) , you may still bring some pupus to share (heavy pupus such as finger sandwiches, cheese and crackers, meatballs, sushi, chicken wings, etc.)
using your own tray.
So that the volunteers may attend Kit's memorial, we would appreciate if the food items you would bring are ready to serve in single portion sizes.
Thank you for your generosity and sharing.

Since we have so GREAT a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us.. run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. heb.12
You have definitely followed in Your Masters steps dear Kit. How proud He must be of you and how fulfilled you must be by the nearness of Your Lord.
I am happy for you my brother but i will miss you.
I'm glad you are in our cheering section. I can almost hear the shouts for maisha and mikey and your beloved shelly.
much love to all the lauer family,

I have many reflections on knowing Kit for over 40 years. The greatest ones are Kit's ability to see the good in others. In High School, Kit was "The man". He was an Honor Roll Student, on the debate team, student body vice president and on the varsity wrestling team his freshman year. Everyone liked him, even the troublemakers. I knew this for a fact because I was one of those rebels and Kit saw the good in us too. Always ready for a laugh, his optimism and friendliness were infectious and made him a friend to everyone.

After High School, we went to different colleges and drifted apart, but we reunited in the early 80s. I lost a brother and Kit a brother-in-law and we became Christians at about the same time.

We spent hundreds of hours training for triathlons together. Even though Kit was a stronger athlete (he competed in the Ironman) he always reveled in my accomplishments, even if it meant I bested him. Kit had inscribed on the back of his bike jersey "Jesus is the #1 Ironman" and I'll always cherish the memories of him riding in front, against the wind, pulling us all along and encouraging us to keep up the pace.

Goethe said, "Treat people as they could be and you help them become that". Kit always had a positive vision for himself and we were all part of it. He was a fearless leader and the same affect he had on his friends - one on one - he later showed with all of you at the Hope Chapel as your minister. God had a vision for Kit, and it was a big one and he filled it to the top.

Kit made us all better people, because like God, he saw the good in us. In his own words it was time to "step it up" and he wouldn't have allowed it any other way. I have many friends, but none that believed in me like Kit did, none that were as loyal and loved me as he did. To a large extent, I am what I am today because of his friendship.

Dear God, Kit has finished the work you gave him here to do. In all your mercy, please receive him with open arms and give him safe lodging until we all meet again.

I am sorry I cannot be there to share in the celebration of Kit's life but I am thankful that Nicole will be flying out.
It doesn't seem that long ago when Kit and Shelly moved to Maui and became my neighbor. Kit was zealous to earn a living to provide for his family and then zealous to share the gospel TRUTH in love. He and Shelly have ministered to so many from their home and through the church.
Thank-you Lord for giving us Kit.

Love, Pat

Shelley and family,
We will all miss
Kit tremendously until we meet again in Heaven. You all have touched so many lives in beautiful loving ways. Can you just imagine the excitement Kit is feeling seeing the glory of the
Almighty God! And hearing the
angels sing! He must be
up there laughing, joking, running back and forth praising the Lord.
Our hearts and prayers are with all of you. We know how hard it is to lose someone that you love
so much. We love you all....

We are all praying for the Lauer family. from the Small Ohana

"Death or absence does not end or even diminish the love of God that brought you to the other person. It calls you to take a new step into the mystery of God's inexhaustible love. The process is painful, very painful, because the other person has become a true revelation of God's love for you." Henri J. M. Nouwen

Kit-
Please say Hi to my dad for me and tell him I'm doing okay and that I'm thinking of him all the time. Hope you two can be buddies and hang out. Will see you both again someday.

Shelly and Family,

Wish I could have seen more of Kit.

May God comfort you and your family, he is pain no more and is with God! Yea!

What Kit meant to me:

If I had the gift of being able to speak in other languages
without learning them and could speak in every language
there is in all of heaven and earth, but didn't love others,
I would only be making noise.
If I had the gift of prophecy and knew all about what
is going to happen in the future, knew everything about
everything, but didn't love others, what good would it do?
Even if I had the gift of faith so that I could speak to a
mountain and make it move,
I would still be worth nothing at all without love.
If I gave everything I have to poor people, and if I
were burned alive for preaching the Gospel but didn't love
others, it would be of no value whatever.
Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or
envious, never boastful or proud,
Never haughty or selfish or rude.
Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy.
It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice
when others do it wrong.
It is never glad about injustice,
but rejoices whenever truth wins out.
If you love someone you will be loyal to him no
matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always
expect the best of him, and
always stand your ground in defending him.
All the special gifts and powers from God will
someday come to an end, but love goes on forever.
Someday prophecy, and speaking in unknown languages, and special
knowledge -- these gifts will disappear.
Now we know so little, even with our special gifts,
and the preaching of those most gifted is still so poor.
But when we have been made perfect and complete,
then the need for these inadequate special gifts will come to
an end, and they will disappear.
It's like this: when I was a child I spoke and thought
and reasoned as a child does. But when I became a man my
thoughts grew far beyond those of my childhood, and now I
have put away the childish things.
In the same way, we can see and understand only a
little about God now, as if were peering at His reflection in
a poor mirror: but someday we are going to see Him in His
completeness, face to face. Now all that I know is hazy and
blurred, but then I will see everything clearly, just as clearly as
God sees into my heart right now.
There are three things that remain -- faith, hope, and love ---
and the greatest of these is love.

Thank you Kit, and thank you God for making him!

See you at Home Kit!

We have had the priviledge and blessing of attending Hope Chapel in Maui on our vacations away from our home in British Columbia. We have come to love Pastor Kit even though we only spent a few weeks of the year there. We have been following The Journey from a distance over the internet and have been praying for Pastor Kit and his family and your wonderful church family called Hope Chapel. You have been a great blessing to us and we just want to express our thanks in order to encourage your hearts as your ministry and influence go far beyond the borders of your town and island. We are so blessed to be able to follow along with the teachingings on the internet and we will continue to pray for you and your ministry there. God Bless You all!

I can not thank Hope Chapel enough for having a live broadcast of Kit's service. I cried, laughed and felt so honored to be a part of this. Knowing we could not be there was a struggle so this was the next best thing. Aloha

for those of us who weren't able to see the live feed, is there a place where we still can?
